⚠️ NEVER look directly at the Sun without proper protection! ⚠️ Welcome to today's live solar stream for September 18! It's an on-and-off cloudy day, but I'm keeping the camera pointed at the sky to catch every brief moment of clear viewing. Following the recent G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm, the solar wind has mostly quieted down. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain at quiet levels, so I won't be expecting any significant auroras tonight. Solar flare activity is at low levels, with only a few C-class flares detected. The sunspot number is currently around 119, with several active regions on the solar disk. I will be keeping a close eye on these regions for any new developments that could lead to a flare. ⚠️ NEVER look directly at the Sun without proper protection! ⚠️ Welcome to today's live solar stream for September 16! I'm bringing you a real-time look at the Sun and the latest space weather. All of today's updates on solar activity are provided right here in the description below. Following the recent G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm, there is still a high-speed stream of solar wind impacting Earth. This has created a continued aurora watch, with forecasters anticipating that the Northern Lights may be visible in several northern US states tonight. We will be monitoring the live data for any changes. On the Sun itself, flare activity is at low levels, with only a few C-class flares detected. However, a new sunspot region, AR4217, has rotated into view, and with six other active regions on the solar disk, there is still a slight chance for minor flare activity. Following a surprise G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm last night, a high-speed stream of solar wind is still impacting Earth. NOAA has issued a G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm watch for today, meaning auroras may still be visible at high latitudes and potentially some mid-latitudes. Solar flare activity is currently low, with only a few C-class flares detected from newly rotated regions like AR4217. With seven active regions on the solar disk, there is still a slight chance for minor flare activity. We will be keeping a close eye on these regions for any new developments.
